Boris Bike Challenge Day 3

Some of the Docking Stations in between bike swops - proof I visited them ALLLL!
Finished up right outside the Royal Albert Hall - cue big smile of relief

Today was Day 3 of the Boris Bike Challenge - my first of 12 challenges in 2012 (just incase you'd somehow forgotten ;-)

It was tough and I was fighting serious headwinds and some very clunky bikes for most of the day. My poor legs - still weary from yesterday - just don't know what's hit them. But mind over matter, well that and a miraculous chocolate cupcake from Peggy P on route worked their magic. I just kept peddling on.... for 21.6 miles to be exact:

So today I covered Pimlico, Westminster, Belgravia, Chelsea, Brompton and South Kensington and most importantly 56 more docking stations, which takes me up to 108 TOTAL. WHOOP, WHOOP!

I'm discovering that there are a few (newer) docking stations not on my paper Map (dated 08.08.10)
*^*^&%!*^^^%*

Then I did some quick maths from all the mileage/ time and stations covered to date for this challenge and worked out that:

I have now covered 44.8 miles on Boris Bikes in 9 hours 47 minutes, which gives me an average rate of 13 minute miles and 10 docking stations/ hour coverage.

Just to drive the point home, given that I have 300 stations still to cover before the end of January (now just 9 days away - eek), I need to devote another 30 hours to this task and cycle another 138 miles approximately.

OH. DEAR. LORD.

I get the feeling I'll be devoting my sanity, one of my remaining Annual Leave days to this challenge and then getting on my knees. Even on the basis of completing the remaining 300 stations in three days, rather than two - this means cycling about 50 miles a day and cycling faster to boot - there are only about 8 hours of daylight at the mo - and since navigating around London in the daylight isn't my strong point, I hate to imagine the chaos of completing the Boris Bike Challenge in the dark :-)

Despite the daunting challenge that lies ahead, I'm going to sleep well tonight! xx
